Apr. 13th, 2007 @ 11:37 am Meet Maggie!
We FINALLY got a girl of our own! Say hello to Maggie. The one and only baby by Sterling Count Basie who we sold just last month… Emma foaled 4/13 sometime between 5-830 am Maggie is a long and leggy breeding stock APHA filly and her pedigree is just amazing…. Both Mom and Baby are doing great. I am seriously considering keeping this one... so if you think otherwise you should speak now.LOL

Isn’t she just the cutest thing?

About this Entry
Mar. 26th, 2007 @ 12:19 pm Its official
All of the horses have now been coggins tested. The vet came out and did all the mares today and of COURSE Twist had to be bitchy about it, rearing up and throwing a fit. He got it done with her though and I was impressed. I think that he has the impression she is a bit.. uhm.. spoiled *grinds toe into the dirt* uhm well.... moving on LOL

He doesn't think Illusion is going to make it another month to the 21st and will probably foal early. I don't know..she certainly LOOKS like she could pop at any minute, she is absolutely huge. I do hope she decides to wait till her stall dries out some or its gonna be a muddy messy baby. Emma is due the 20th of April and I can't wait to see that baby either. With a performance pedigree like that it should be a stunner. Spook is leaving this weekend for Nebraska to be bred to Too Hot to Splash for 2008. He should be an amazing cross on her, and its one that I am excited about.

Finn and Mac are starting to shed out and Finn is going to be that deep gorgeous Smutty Buckskin that you have always dreamed about. As soon as they are done shedding, I am going to get some new pictures and start pushing them to sell. Whoever ends up with one of these boys is going to be absolutely thrilled with the package let me tell you. Every time I look at them I just stare. They are both incredible babies.

I added new links to the website and even one that allows you to message us directly on Yahoo. Feel free to add us to your messenger and keep an eye on the site. I'm really going to be adding a nursery one of these days.

Back to work for now... I will write more later...

Well as I type this out our own Sterling Count Basie is on his way to his new home in Bayard, Nebraska. Congrats to Danielle Whitney on the purchase of this awesome stallion!

While Basie is now gone, we still have a part of him still with us. Emma is due to foal in just ONE short month with what promises to be a performance prospect that is second to none. Keep your eyes on the website for pictures.

Let's not forget Illusion who is due to foal within days of Emma. She is bred to Royal Dreamwalker for a guaranteed Black and White homozygous foal! Who knows.. with some luck this could turn out to be our next stallion prospect.

As you can see.. its been an exciting year so far and it promises only to get better. We are entering spring with attitude and then anticipating summer and our move to Tennessee in the fall.

Check out the new items on the website, and keep your eye out for the addition of a nursery! Visit our sale page - Become a part of the Broken A Ranch Experience. You won't regret it!
About this Entry
Feb. 17th, 2007 @ 06:57 pm Im terrible
about updating this journal I know. I have been up to my eyeballs in details and trying to get everything done at once before spring. Today I ordered two foaling blankets ( just in case we run into snow in late April) wormers, new fly masks, lead ropes and some misc stuff that needed buying. I've gone through the supplies that are on hand and found many things needing repair or replacement and a whole lotta leather that needs cleaning. I just love spring. Yay. LOL

We are just about ready for foaling in April, only having to dig out the stalls and baby proof them, we won't have any babies born on the wrong side of the fence this year LOL. In another few weeks its time to split the pasture off and start teasing the mares that are to be bred this year, backing up foaling to a decent month for next year since we won't have to worry about brutal weather in TN.

In any case its a chilly night but the next 10 days promise to be nice enough to get some outside stuff done.

Drop by and say hello sometime *smile*
About this Entry
Jan. 26th, 2007 @ 06:47 pm Happy New Year
Its been a long time since I have had the chance to update here, but things are insanely busy right now. We had a huge amount of unexpected snow and bitter cold weather through December and the better part of January, so it has been all about keeping on top of chores and keeping things running smoothly.

We celebrated the New Year by adding once again to our program. Say hello to Dimond! She is our newest addition to our broodmare band and we are just thrilled to have her. She has been exposed to Bar Eyed Leo (who also sired our amazing stallion Buck) for a 2007 foal. This foal will be either a buckskin or a palomino and will be for sale.

As you can see the year has already been extremely busy and it has barely started. The relocation to Tennessee is still in the works and we expect to be making it before the fall.
More on that as it gets closer.

We wish all of our friends a profitable and exciting New Year - we know that we are in for one!

Well the first snow of the season has fallen and we have had a cold snap the last few days. A bit early in the year for my taste but it keeps us on our toes getting things ready. In pondering the upcoming year decisions must be made and things need to be organized.

The subject of where to buy a house keeps coming up, and I am not keen on manufactured homes (no matter how nice they are) so buying land in Wyoming might be beyond the scope of possibility. Tennessee has once again come up and I have to say that it looks really good at the moment. Of course research needs to be done and some organization needs to happen, but we have a year to do that. Currently we are looking tentatively at the Knoxville area, a mere 2 hours from Nashville which would be very cool and right in the Smokey Mountains. It's beautiful country and is high on the list at the moment.

In other news the boys are growing like weeds and are itching to get into their new homes. Take a look at our sale page and take home a piece of your future.

Aug. 3rd, 2006 @ 10:34 am Finally HOME
Illusion is FINALLY here! She arrived just about an hour ago looking fantastic. Kenny as always did a wonderful job bringing her in. Take a Look at her new pictures and don't forget to visit the sale page to find the horse of your dreams. I am constantly updating photos of the babies as they grow, you should see them now, absolutely gorgeous. Finnegan is STUNNING and I believe he will emerge as that rare smutty buckskin. He is so dark and since he has that dorsal stripe I would tend to believe somewhere in there he has a DUN factor! Mac just gets prettier every day and is going to make someone a VERY happy person, putting beautiful babies on the ground and lighting up that show ring. Now that things are cooling off I will be handling them more (well once Illusion is kicked out of the stall)and getting them ready for their new homes. Excellent Christmas presents or a great way to indulge yourself in something special. They will be ready to go at the end of September.. so get a deposit on yours today!

Just got home from Pirates 2 and have a few moments to update here. We have decided to NOT breed Spook and Twist this year, which means we will have no more Buck babies until 2008, so get your hands on one today. I am hoping to get Buck into training this year to see what he can do. Illusion should be home in a few short weeks and preparations will begin for winter at the end of August. Babies will be going on the sale page here in just a week or so as soon as I can get some good pictures of them. In case you didn't know its REALLY hard to take pictures of friendly foals. I have LOTS of their noses if you would care to see them.

I have just hired stall cleaners to come out once a week and help out. Can I just say that they are a godsend? They make life sooo much easier and have freed me up to handle the babies even more. Halter breaking is moving along and I am exposing them to as much stimulation as I can while they are small. I think Illusion is going to need a fair amount of handling when she gets here before I turn her out with everyone else.

Other than that things are moving right along. You just keep your eye on us. We are going places.

Jun. 14th, 2006 @ 03:36 pm HOT
Current Mood: hot
oh my.. it is soooo hot this week here! I thought by leaving California we would be in for a milder summer but here it is mid June and we have been in the 90's all week. The constant breeze or gale force wind is somewhat of a relief but that sun is brutal.

I've been keeping an eye on the mares to come into heat. Breeding during the foal heat was advised against so now Im on watch to get them rebred to Buck for 2007. Illusion was ultra sounded in foal and Emma never came back into heat, so I am keeping an eye on her as well but I feel confident that she is safely in foal to Basie.

I was lying in bed last night (actually very early this morning) and watching the most incredible lightning light the world up. Being in thunder alley certainly is cool. The moon rises just perfectly past the bedroom window to bathe the whole room in moonlight. Its pretty cool if I do say so myself.

Cheyenne Frontier Days is getting closer and we have tickets to Trace Adkins/Montgomery Gentry concert which should be a blast, Im not sure which rodeo we are going to but I think we are behind the chutes. The boys are growing like weeds, we had a scare with Mac on Saturday when he had a bad colic but he recovered quickly and was soon back to pasture playing with Finn. Its getting to be about time to redesign the website and update the sale page, if you are lucky enough to land one of these babies you will have an incredible journey ahead of you with them, and that I can guarantee.

Time to get some stuff done.. will write more later.

Current Mood: busy
on the Broken A Ranch. Breeding season officially started today when we covered Doc Hollywood's Dream with Sterling Count Basie for a 2007 foal. It is going to be Emma's first baby and I think Basie is an excellent cross for her. We are still anxiously awaiting the arrival of Twist and Spooks foals in the next few weeks and will post pictures as soon as we can. Changes are coming to the site with a new look this summer, updated pictures and some additions to the Sale page that I am sure are going to get your juices flowing.

We did decide to re-breed Illusion to Royal Dreamwalker in hopes of a double black homozygous colt in 2007. While we want a colt, a filly would be most welcome as well.

With the launch of our new design site Mystickal Design things are slowly getting even busier. We have hopes that the site will take off and we are excited to be able to offer affordable top quality, professional websites to our customers.

The Daddy of em All is coming up quickly and the week will be a welcome break in the cycle of work. Be sure to join us for a summer of fun!

Only a few more mares to go. Sadly our Stallion Sterling Count Basie's foal didn't make it. She was a beautiful Black filly with white markings. He will be bred to our own Emma this year for a 2007 foal (Her first) We also received word that Illusion had reabsorbed her 2006 foal! We are debating on having her re bred to Jill's beautiful stallion or just bringing her in to breed to Buck. We will keep you posted!
